Tänzelfest - historical festival in Kaufbeuren from 12th to 23th July 2012
The history of our town as performed by our children - The oldest historical Children's Festival in Bavaria from 12th to 23th July 2012.
In the town of Kaufbeuren our children have been celebrating a very special festival known as The Tänzelfest for many years. Every summer, shortly before the beginning of the holidays, Kaufbeuren is entirely taken over by these festivities. Our Children's Festival, supposedly founded by Emperor Maximilian I, Germany's last knight, during his official visit to Kaufbeuren in 1497, is the oldest of its kind in Bavaria.
Come and experience history, as we re-enact Maximilian's procession with his entourage through our beautifully decorated streets. The ceremonies will begin at Kaufbeuren's historic Town Hall, where the children will recreate the founding of The Tänzelfest.
The parade that follows this scene features 1600 children dressed in authentic historical costumes ranging from the time of the foundation of Kaufbeuren through to the mid 19th century. The parade also includes 32 beautiful horse-drawn carriages and more than 150 magnificent horses.
